BIHARKEMANDIR.COM, तीव्र और बेपरवाह शहरीकरण और आधुनिकता के प्रभाव में अपनी पवित्र पहचान खो रही बिहार की पौराणिक व सांस्कृतिक धरोहरों और विरासत को संरक्षित करने के उद्देश्य से शुरू की गई एक परियोजना है। इसी परिपेक्ष्य में यह नितांत आवश्यक है कि हमारे गौरवशाली अतीत, इसमें अंतर्निहित ज्ञान और मूल्यों, पारंपरिक मान्यताओं और प्रथाओं के बारे में भावी पीढ़ी को शिक्षित और जागरूक करने के लिये पुरातात्विक, संजातीय और मौखिक साक्ष्यों को व्यवस्थित रूप से दस्तावेज में दर्ज किया जाए। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि हमारे बुजुर्ग जिनकी उम्र आज सत्तर, अस्सी या नब्बे वर्ष के ऊपर का है, उनके गुजर जाने के बाद पूर्व की पीढ़ियों द्वारा संचित ज्ञान और मान्यताओं का हमेशा के लिए खो जाने की गहरी संभावना है। इन सांस्कृतिक विरासतों को आगे ग्रामीण पर्यटन विकास योजना के तहत तीर्थ स्थलों के रूप में विकसित किया जा सकता है।

इन्हीं उद्देश्यों के साथ BIHARKEMANDIR.COM, बिहार के स्थानीय मंदिरों तथा उसके ऐतिहासिक एवं पौराणिक मान्यताओं का दस्तावेजीकरण करने का एक अथक प्रयास है, क्योंकि पूर्व के कालखंडों में मंदिर ध्रुव हुआ करते थे जिसके चारों ओर सौहार्दपूर्ण सामाजिक ताना बाना बुना जाता था। हमारी प्राचीन मान्यताएँ तथा सामाजिक रीति-रिवाज वर्तमान समय में सतत विकास और पर्यावरण संरक्षण के दृष्टिकोण से भी प्रासंगिक और महत्वपूर्ण हैं, क्योंकि प्राचीन काल में हमारे पूर्वज प्रकृति के साथ सामंजस्य बनाकर विकास का खाका और नीति बनाते थे। उन्होंने विकास के क्रम में पर्यावरण और प्रकृति को बिना कोई क्षति पहुंचाए हुए उसे संरक्षित रखा। लेकिन आज के गैर जिम्मेदार आधुनिकीकरण के कारण भयावह स्तर पर प्रकृति का क्षरण और पर्यावरण असंतुलन पैदा हुआ है, जिसने न केवल हमारे जीवन की गुणवत्ता प्रभावित किया है बल्कि मानव प्रजाति के अस्तित्व को भी खतरे में डाल दिया है।

India has a strong and vibrant cultural heritage, which is on the verge of extinction in the race for mindless growth and development. Under the influence of western value system and a life-style rooted in non-conformity with nature, indigenous cultures and their value systems have been branded as irrelevant, backward and primitive, ignoring the fact that it had accumulated wisdom of numerous previous generations.

BIHARKEMANDIR.COM is a project undertaken with the objective to preserve bygone cultural heritage of Bihar, which is fast losing its sanctimonious identity due to rapid urbanization, migration and modernity. To educate and make the posterity aware about our glorious past, our inherent wisdom and values; it is imperative to systematically document traditional beliefs, practices, archaeological, ethnic and oral evidences. This is highly critical as with the passing of the present elders- Nona/Octo/Septuagenarians, these evidences are also likely to be lost forever. These cultural heritages can further be developed as pilgrimage sites, under rural tourism development plan.

With these objectives BIHARKEMANDIR.COM is an effort to document the local temples of Bihar, its historicity and mythological beliefs, as temples were the nucleus around which our ancient societies were organized. The customs and beliefs of our ancient societies are also relevant from sustainability and environmental perspectives in the present times, as ancient societies were supposed to be in tune with the 'mother nature', which the rapid modernization has affected adversely. The rapid modernization has not only affected the quality of life, but has endangered the very survival of human species on this planet.
